COL Conkright assumed command of the U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys and Area III on 11 July 2012.
A native of Kentucky, he has had a number of command and staff assignments at Fort Bragg, Fort Campbell, Washington DC, and in Europe. While at Fort Campbell, COL Conkright was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) where he commanded ODA 522 and served as the Battalion Assistant S-3. In Washington DC, he served as an assignments officer in the US Army PERSCOM’s Special Management Division. At Fort Bragg, COL Conkright commanded B Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) and also served as the Battalion and Group S-3 in multiple tours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. While in Europe, COL Conkright served as a Future Operations Officer in the Special Operations Command – Europe (Airborne), the Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General of U.S. Army Europe and 7th Army, the Garrison Commander of U.S. Army Garrison Brussels, the Director of the ISAF Special Operations Forces Fusion Cell (SOFFC), and in his most recent assignment as the Chief of Staff for the NATO Special Operations Headquarters (NSHQ) in Mons, Belgium.
COL Conkright entered the Army in 1989, receiving a ROTC commission and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Kentucky. His advanced education includes a Masters of Business Administration and a Masters in Healthcare Management.
COL Conkright is a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College and his awards include the Legion of Merit, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal.
His badges include the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Special Forces Tab, the Ranger Tab, and the Master Parachutist Badge.
COL Conkright has been married to Lori, also from Kentucky, for 22 years and has two sons, Jake and Stephen.
